Printronix Gold & Platinum Series
Remanufactured Printers

Is Your Budget A Little Tight?

Printronix can help you save money and still realize all the benefits of our industry leading print technologies: line matrix, laser, and thermal. To achieve your budget goals while upgrading your print operations, check out our remanufactured printers. The two versions – Gold and Platinum – are detailed below. Both are yours at discounted prices that are much more in tune with your budget.

What are Remanufactured Gold Series Printers?

These units are hand-picked as the best we can find from the field. They are normally three to five years old and in good working condition. Once returned to our factory, they undergo an extensive remanufacturing process to ensure the highest product quality. Remanufacturing includes:

· Thorough disassembly, cleaning and inspection
· Upgrade CMX controller to latest revision
· Refurbish shuttle, including new wear surfaces and fret tip cleaning/match-up
· Clean and test power supply; upgrade if needed
· New exterior paint
· Check motors and belts
· Replace ribbon hubs
· Install options and latest software
· Test and prepare for shipment

What are Remanufactured Platinum Series Printers?

Our Platinum Series printers are low usage, recently built models. Typically they are returns from demonstration sites or sales offices and are three to six months old. These "like new" units are fully reviewed and tested before shipment. Also, any available upgrades are performed. Often, these printers can have the same options installed as new printers.

Eliminating Hidden Printing Costs

Companies are quickly discovering that there’s a “hidden cost center” that’s draining millions of dollars from their bottom lines.

That cost center is the cost of operating laser and ink printers. Companies are spending up to 3% of their annual revenues on office printing, according to Gartner.

The costs have been hidden because typically not one group is responsible for tracking all of the costs. The IT department handles printer service. Toner and paper are purchased through an office supplies account, or by the facilities group. Often, different operational groups within an organization are responsible for making the purchases when needs arise. As a result, there is no overall strategy guiding these decisions.

There is good news. Tools and methods have been developed to help organizations analyze the costs and then put together a strategy for reducing these costs without sacrificing the needs of their users.

Perfect Bar Codes
every time.

Is it important to your organization that the bar code labels that you produce be accurately read every time? If so, Printronix has the answer with Online Data Validation.

This unique quality control option can inspect every bar code on every label printed on a Printronix T5000e. Specifically, ODV technology analyzes each bar code just after it is printed. This 100% analysis verifies that the print image falls well within each bar code’s published quality specifications to ensure the bar code will scan successfully. If any code on a label fails, the label is automatically cancelled and a replacement label is printed.

  • Evaluates every bar code on every label to provide total scanning assurance.
  • Automatically cancels and reprints any label
on which a bar code failed.
  • Eliminates the need for costly human intervention in the bar code validation process.

Thermal Printing 101

Thermal printers are excellent for printing all types of labels, including regular paper labels, weatherproof synthetics, and card stock. These printers can quickly deliver a single label with no waste, or print large batches of labels at high production rates.

How do DIRECT THERMAL labels work?

Direct Thermal labels are made from chemically sensitized paper or synthetics that turn black when heated. A roller advances the labels and squeezes them against the printhead, which contains a row of miniature solid-state heating elements. The printer's internal microprocessor turns the elements on and off to form the image. Depending on the resolution of the printer, there can be from 150 to 600 elements per inch.

The printing process is simple so the printers can be compact, fairly low in cost, and easy to load. A disadvantage is that direct thermal labels tend to fade over time (6 months to a year), and this process can be accelerated by heat, humidity, and exposure to sunlight. The surface of most direct thermal labels tend to be slightly abrasive, causing printheads to wear more rapidly than thermal transfer.

Excellent for point of sale or shipment labeling applications where labels are needed in random quantites at irregular intervals and where the labels have a limited life expectancy.

How do THERMAL TRANSFER labels work?

A Thermal Transfer printer uses a thin plastic ribbon with a thin coating of wax or resin based pigment. The ribbon and labels feed from separate rolls and are squeezed together by a roller as they pass under the thermal printhead . The heating elements in the printhead melt the coating which transfers to the label to form the image.

Produces a durable, high-quality image, and can be used with many types of label stocks (paper and synthetics). Printers are durable and offer relatively fast printing speeds; some models approach 12 inches per second. As speed, dot per inch resolution, and maximum print width go up, printer cost can climb rapidly. Cost of printing a single color (usually black) is reasonable, but multi-color printing can be expensive in terms of printer cost and consumption of ribbons.

Excellent for producing product and packaging labels either on demand or in batches. The ability to print on synthetic stocks (eg. gloss coated polyester) makes it possible to produce UL/CSA equipment rating plates and serial number labels.
